One of my intentions for the new year is to practice more gratitude and presence, so why not start with a thankful reflection on what I accomplished in 2019!

  • I participated in my first design critiques and presented my own work and incorporated feedback into my designs.
  • I committed to a monthly UX Hustle Club I was selected for and attended every session. I’m proud of what I learned and how I grew, the relationships I made, and, if I’m honest, my perfect attendance.
  • I delivered my first real-life designs to the product owner of my side project! As I should have anticipated, the developer and product owner came back with questions and more requests, which are still in the works, but I’m still counting this as a win!
  • I attended my first tech conference, Refactr Tech.
  • I made the scary decision to step back from full-time work to care for my unexpected newborn twins and their medical issues. I’m currently working part-time and have yet to resign, but my team and my family are awaiting the call. Soon I’ll be mothering full-time and furthering my UX career in my spare time. It’s been a very emotional process, this entire thing, and I plan to write about it more in the near future. For now, I’ll say that I’m proud of how I fought the internal battles and how I honored myself and my family in this.

Here’s to a year of progress and change and here’s to many more. Cheers!
